Shiloh Music Academy believes that classical music is beneficial to everyone, not just those who live near major orchestra programs. By asking the teacher to travel to our location one day a week, we allow many students to take lessons that would otherwise find it very difficult because of the travel and time commitment.
We also believe that studying music enhances the ability of the brain to learn and assimilate information in areas that are seemingly unrelated. Through music, spatial skills develop through studying rhythm and historical learning occurs through studying the different musical time periods. The process of playing an instrument develops musculature coordination as the eye processes notes and the fingers respond with the correct fingering. During music making, the brain is actively developing new connections and expanding its capabilities.
Students of music also enjoy an aesthetic appreciation for the art-form they are performing in. Studies show that we appreciate the art that we are familiar with and that we understand. By studying an instrument, the student develops a skill that will remain for a life-time of enjoyment, regardless of the level of proficiency achieved.
